Visitor Services Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

Primary responsibilities are to serve as the weekday greeter to the Person County Museum of History, operate the gift shop, and assist visitors with self-guided tours. This position will also support the mission of the Museum by assisting with special events, exhibits, and other programming. The Visitor Services Coordinator reports directly to the museum director. The Person County Museum of History is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Hours & Compensation

This position is 18 hours per week / $15 per hour. No benefits.  The Visitor Services Coordinator is expected to be present on-site Wednesday through Friday from 10 am until 4 pm.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as onsite greeter Wednesday – Friday 10 am – 4 pm
  • Recruit/Coordinate/Train/Schedule volunteer greeters, as needed
  • Serve as the contact person for group scheduling – Schedule and execute group tours, field trips, and scout groups
  • Operate the gift shop; assist in sourcing items to sell in the gift shop
  • Assist museum director with social media and newsletter content
  • Light cleaning and straightening to ensure that the site is in presentable appearance.
  • Answer phones and check voicemail Wednesday through Friday
  • Assist with coordinating hospitality and volunteer needs of mission-related events at the request of the museum director
  • Ensure proper tracking and reporting of visitor information and quarterly volunteer hours
  • Creation of all special event visitor logs, keeping track and metrics from events
  • Serve as liaison to the area visitor centers
  • Assist with exhibit set up at the request of the museum director
  • Assists with updating area events calendars as needed by request of the museum director
  • Provides visitors with area information

Experience

  • Retail and/or customer service experience
  • Familiarity with (and/or willingness to learn) website management (WordPress, Square Online, etc) and online metrics.

  • Demonstrated ability to critically think and problem solve
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing technologies

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office components: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with (and/or willingness to learn) Square Online, Web-based communications, and social media
  • Effective oral and written communication; ability to respond to inquiries and visitors in a well-spoken and polite manner.
